Course Schedule : The next One month Certificate Course in Palliative Medicine begins on first Monday of January, March, May, July, September, and November, 2008. |

This will have to be paid in full by demand draft payable at Hyderabad in the name of MNJIO&RCC when information of preliminary selection is sent. Confirmation of seat will be made on receipt of payment. Travel and accommodation will be the candidate's responsibility; but assistance will be provided to secure accommodation when needed. Accommodation booking (if requested) can be confirmed only on receipt of the required amount. |

Cancellation : If course participation has to be cancelled after payment, Rs 14,000 (or Rs. 4000 in the case of the subsidized seats) can be refunded provided another person is accommodated against the vacancy. If no one else is available at such short notice, only half the fee will be refunded. The refund can be effected as demand draft or can be adjusted against payment of fees for a future course. |

Working hours : Work starts at 9.00 AM and finishes at 4.30 PM or till clinical work is completed, whichever is later. The work is from Monday to Saturday. The candidates are eligible for no other leave, and if for some reason leave becomes needed for unforeseeable reasons, the duration of the course will be extended by the number of days missed. |

The learning process:
The bulk of the learning process will be by the bedside, in the outpatient department, in the wards. There will be one or two academic exercises every day - majority of the subjects will be covered in the form of interactive tutorials. Periodically you will be expected to make short presentations on some of the subjects as well as to present interesting reports of patients and problems. |

Log book:
You are also required to keep a log book of at least five reports - studies of patients - to include initial evaluation, treatment plan and progress over the period studied. |

Examination at the conclusion of the course. Ordinarily it will be on day 43 of the course; but if that day is a holiday, or is inconvenient for some other reason, the examination may be postponed to the next day. |

Evaluation of the course by the candidate. The students will be requested to give their feedback on the teaching program week-by-week as well as overall at the conclusion of the course. The feedback will be used for modification of the program to enhance its usefulness. |

Objective: To enable participants to gain practical "hands-on" training in palliative care nursing supplemented by theoretical background. There is considerable demand for this sort of course from all over the country. |

| Eligibility: Degree/diploma in Nursing; registration in Nursing Council of India. |

| IAPC CERTIFICATE COURSE IN ESSENTIALS OF PALLIATIVE CARE |

IAPC Certificate Course in Essentials of Palliative Care is a basic Course in palliative care for both doctors and nurses. The course aims at improving the skills of health professionals in India in communicating with the patients and controlling difficult symptoms in patients with incurable/chronicillnesses. The course is carried out though distance education for eight weeks. The course material(course handbook,guidelines for the candidates and from at for writing the case reflection) will be delivered to the candidates from the regional centres once they send the list of registered candidates to the central coordinating centre, Institute of Palliative medicine (IPM),Calicut. |

There will be an introductory session in the beginning followed by a contact sessi for 15 hours. The Introductory session and the contact session will be arranged by the regional coordinator in his/her centre. If the coordinator needs extemal faculty for the contact sessions, IAPC can make arrangements for that if informed in time. |

The introductory session will cover an overview of the course, pattem of examination and guidelines for writing the case reflection. The Contact session covers the following topics (time allotment for each session in brackets) |

The candidates have to submit the case reflection at the end of six weeks. Theregional coordinator has to evaluate the case reflection and can arrange a feedback session on the same on the previous day of the evaluation/according to the convenience of the candidates and the coordinator. The regional coordinator will be given a sample case reflection and the guidelines for marking the case reflection. |

The candidate have to Secure minimum 50% in each for a pass. The successful Candidate will be awarded the certificate in essential of palliative care by IAPC. This certificate alone is not sufficient for the candidate to apply for morphine license. |

The evaualuation will be coordinated by the central board in IPM. There should be one external faculty for the evaluation in each regional centre. The traveling expense for food and accommodation of the external faculty will be reimbursed by IAPC. The question paper for evaluation will be set by the central board which will be sent to the external faculty visiting a particular centre. The final result should be handed over to the central board and the board will announce the result through the official website of IAPC( www.palliativecare.in |

Rs .1000/- The course fee will be carried forward for one time if the candidate fails in the evaluation or he/she is unable to attend the contact session/evaluation sessions after which he /she has to register again. The completed application forms with the demand draft and the proof of professional qualifications are to be submitted to the regional centre. The application forms will be available in the IAPC website www.palliativecare.in from 31.03.2008 The completed application forms should be submitted to the regional centre and copies of the application forms and the candidates list should reach IPM on or before 15.05.2008 The next course commences on 01.06,2008 The examination will be in first half of August 2008. There is an optional second part, where the candidates who have successfully completed the certificate course can choose clinical placement for Ten days in a nearby palliative care unit. This placement has to be made in consultation with the respective regional coordinator as a mentor or facilitator should be available in the palliative care unit to guide the candidate during the clinical placement. The certificate on successful completion of clinical placement will be issued by the regional coordinator . The candidates who successfully complete the clinical component will be eligible to apply for license to stock and dispense oral morphine under modified narcotic rules. |
